Windy Days at ASA

“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” -Jimmy Dean

Middle School Students did some “windtunnel” tests where they found the center of gravity for their airplanes (where it balances), and then hung it from a weight scale in front of a powerful fan to observe how the weight of the plane decreases as the wings provide lift in the airflow. They also observed the effects of turbulence and how to use flaps to counter unbalanced aerodynamic forces. Wow!
